OptiFiber

Specialized software for designing and calculating the propagation parameters of optical fibers.

What is OptiFiber?

OptiFiber is Optiwave software dedicated to designing and analyzing optical fiber parameters. The program calculates chromatic and polarization dispersion (PMD), mode profile, attenuation, birefringence, and nonlinear effects for any defined fiber refractive index profile. OptiFiber supports single-mode (SMF), multimode (MMF), photonic (PCF/MOF), and specialty fibers.

The program is used both by optical fiber manufacturers to optimize the index profile for a specific application, and by transmission system designers to accurately model the optical path taking into account real fiber parameters. OptiFiber is a natural complement to OptiSystem — fiber parameters calculated in OptiFiber can be directly imported into system-level simulations.

Frequently asked questions about OptiFiber

Does OptiFiber support photonic crystal fibers (PCF)?

Yes. OptiFiber includes a dedicated solver for PCF (Photonic Crystal Fiber) with any air-hole lattice geometry.

Can OptiFiber results be imported into OptiSystem?

Yes. OptiFiber generates fiber parameter files compatible with the OptiSystem component library, enabling the use of accurate fiber models in system-level simulations.

Does OptiFiber calculate nonlinear effects?

The program calculates the fiber's nonlinear parameters (γ coefficient, SPM/XPM/FWM values). Full simulation of nonlinear effects at the system level is performed in OptiSystem.
