OptiMode

An advanced environment for designing and analyzing modes of optical and photonic waveguides.

What is OptiMode?

OptiMode is Optiwave software designed for mode analysis of waveguide structures. The program calculates eigenmode field distributions, effective indices, propagation losses, and polarization parameters for any waveguide cross-section — uniform and graded, isotropic and anisotropic.

Mode analysis is the foundation of designing every active or passive photonic component — couplers, splitters, modulators, and waveguide lasers. OptiMode provides accurate mode profiles that can be directly imported into OptiBPM and OptiFDTD, ensuring data consistency throughout the entire design workflow.

Frequently asked questions about OptiMode

How does OptiMode differ from the mode solver in OptiBPM?

OptiMode is a dedicated tool for detailed mode analysis with advanced solver and visualization options. The mode solver in OptiBPM is integrated with propagation simulation and mainly serves to generate boundary conditions for BPM.

Does OptiMode support anisotropic structures?

Yes. The program supports anisotropic materials, which is key when analyzing waveguides in LiNbO₃, GaN, and other crystals.

Are OptiMode results compatible with OptiFDTD?

Yes. Mode profiles from OptiMode can be imported as sources in OptiFDTD.
