What is OptiSPICE?
OptiSPICE is Optiwave software for designing and analyzing optoelectronic circuits at the transistor level. The program combines optical elements — lasers, photodetectors, modulators — with classic electronic elements: transistors, resistors, capacitors, and amplifiers, in a single simulation environment. It is the first software on the market dedicated to such deep integration of the optical and electronic domains.
OptiSPICE enables DC, AC, and transient simulations for integrated circuits containing both optical and electrical paths. It is an essential tool for designing PICs (Photonic Integrated Circuits), transceivers, laser drivers, and transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs).
OptiSPICE key features
operating point analysis, frequency characteristics, and time response
lasers (DFB, FP, VCSEL), PIN and APD photodetectors, electro-optic modulators
import of SPICE models of electronic components from chip manufacturers
optimization of transimpedance amplifiers for optical receivers
shot noise, thermal noise, laser RIN noise
modeling of PLL loops and power stabilization circuits

Frequently asked questions about OptiSPICE
Does OptiSPICE require knowledge of SPICE?
Knowledge of SPICE is helpful but not required. The program offers a graphical schematic editor and a library of ready-made optoelectronic component models.
Can I import SPICE models from chip manufacturers?
Yes. OptiSPICE supports standard SPICE models (.lib, .sub), enabling the use of models provided by integrated circuit manufacturers.
What is the difference between OptiSPICE and OptiSystem?
OptiSystem simulates optical transmission systems at a high level of abstraction (components as blocks). OptiSPICE goes down to the circuit level — transistors, diodes, and analog connections.
